At a New Year's dinner last year someone made a comment about another friend's all sequined shirt. Her reply was something to the effect of: "um... it's new years! of course i'm covered in sequins". Since that dinner and especially in the last month or two I've been on the hunt for something similar to a disco ball in shirt form. And I'm happy to say that I now own an ALL SEQUIN shirt! I wouldn't be surprised if a young John Travolta circa Saturday Night Fever was always dancing around me while I wore it.
But for realzies I'm very happy that Christmas time is here again. As an older person than I used to be Christmas is taking on a different, less selfish meaning. I am starting to understand what parents mean when they say that they take just as much joy in watching others enjoy their gifts or activities of the season as they do in getting presents themselves. And when my parents say "oh, we don't need anything, just your love is all the gift I need" (or something like that) it's slowing making sense that we don't always need presents. NOW don't go returning all the gifts you done bought me! I'm just saying that I think I'm maturing enough to see things in a new light. As a person who loves to gift, who keeps a running list all year of things to get people it's going to be hard for me to ever forego gifting. Let's just say that if I REALLY had to, I could be just as happy w/o giving any presents as I would giving everyone something.
Happy December!
